casual uniform

Last week Z and I were headed to friend’s apartment to hang out and I spent an unfortunate amount of time staring at my closet and whining the usual “I have NOTHING to wear.” Except it was (kind of) true – when it comes to casual wear when the weather drops below 65 degrees, I’m at a loss… I blame this mostly on the fact that I don’t really do pants – and by pants I mean jeans. In fact if you don’t count leggings/yoga pants, I have exactly 2 pairs of pants in my closet – 1 pair of skinny jeans and 1 pair of suit pants that I haven’t worn since 2007 and probably don’t fit anymore. Also, I own exactly zero t-shirts.  Sad, right?

Well not really – I’m 5ft tall and finding pants that fit is a big pain. Maybe one day I’ll be motivated to find the “perfect” pair of jeans and be a convert… but until then I’m stocking up on leggings and calling it a day! So while I’ve developed somewhat of an everyday work/life uniform, I’m finding a need to define a more casual uniform as well. So far it’s best illustrated by these looks from DVF (of course!)…

Tabalah DressYacia Top

Throwing on silk tunics/dresses over leggings is as easy as it gets for me.

Just add a lot of black leather…

Loeffler Randall Riley Boots, Alexander Wang Darcy Hobo, Alice + Olivia Leather Trim Blazer (if these 3 could make their way into my closet over the next few months, that would be amazing… *cough* my birthday is november 1st *cough*)

And we can’t forget the cocktail rings…

Manu Spectrum Druzy Ring, Kanupriya Golden Mushroom Ring, Alexis Bittar Miss Havisham Crystal Ring

Do you have a casual fall uniform?

fall = sparkles?

For the past week or so, the mornings in DC have provided a distinct taste of delicious fall weather… and I’m finally ready for it. Because like many of you, I’m ready for fall fashion – but I don’t mean layers, chunky knits, or pants of any type… I mean sparkles. Yes, sparkles. I know the holidays are still a few months away, but for some reason I equate the slightest chill in the air with the beginning of party season (in my mind, the opposite of wedding season). After all I much prefer cocktail attire when I don’t have to worry about sticky humidity, don’t you? Right now I’m finding myself drawn to sequined items in all shapes and sizes – especially beyond cocktail attire… let’s take a look at some of my faves:

Marc Jacobs bag (obsessed), Missoni skirt (79% off and still not affordable), Alice + Olivia dress (I’d love an excuse to wear this!)

Kate Spade ballet flats (in both colors, please!), Kenneth Cole pumps (work appropriate sparkle?), Kate Spade heels (hello perfect wedding shoes, seriously)

Marc Jacobs bag (sequined Stam = holy grail of sparkly bags), J. Crew skirt (it may be overdone already, but I still love it), Deborah Lippmann nail polishes (the new Bad Romance shade could be my cold weather go-to this year)
